BRIEF REPORT ON ACADEMIC BOARD MEETING 10 JUNE 1992 o - Lengthy discussion of a discussion paper/recommendation from DVC(R) Porter on EFTSU Wieghting & Research Quantum. Not-so-muted howls from Faculties wanting special treatment. o - paper from DVC(A) Pargetter on establishment/Headship provisions for Schools. o - report of VCE English task force. Recommending CAT 1 has external assessment. o - Malaysia. Ball is now with financier/entrepreneur to come up with form proposals. (UofS's Penang campus is running.) o - Berwick. Much frustration at the political nature of the debate. Monash has made no comment about the Dandenong option/proposal. Logan obviously wanting to keep all pre and post election options open. Clearly the aim is to keep Deakin & Swinburne out of the SE of Melbourne. o - rumbles about Syme's Master of Business (Manuf. Mgt), and the degree it overlaps with the MBA. Academic Board has a Standing Committee looking at all proposals from DSFOB and ECOM, and as this Committee had cleared the MofB, Mal would not let the opposition run. o - some heated questioning on Caulfield/Frankston departments paying for exam supervision. Registrar Pritchard resurrected Chisholm ("well of course it has been the practice at Chisholm ....'), but kept saying "we are looking into it". [Expect no favourable outcome: JB] All that took 2.5 hours. The membership of Academic Board changes July 1. I think I have been re-elected unopposed, and Rob Hagan replaces Chris Avram.
