This spelling does not occur in my (somewhat old) dictionary, but the kanji in question (which is not, apparently, used in modern simplified or traditional Chinese) is correctly linked to the definition in the kanji dictionary.  Apparently, however, there never has been an entry in EDICT for this kanji.
On the title page of Tagame's work, the kanji is accompanied by the furigana "kodama," and although he translates the work as "Echo" in his own translated list of titles, the main character is a hermit who lives deep in the mountain forests.
