(reference)	アフガニスタンから中国を経て伝わり、王府時代の16世紀初め頃、木綿布（ミンサー）の使用が記されていることから、この頃すでに八重山地方でミンサーが織られていたと考えられています。また、八重山ミンサーの名前は綿（ミン）のせまい帯（サー）からきたと言われています。通い婚の時代に女性から意中の男性に贈る習わしがあり、5つ4つの模様は「いつの世までも変わらぬ愛を誓った物」と言われています。
