Anyway this appears to be one of those expressions that is more commonly (x2+) used in an "incorrect" form, 濡れ手に粟.  
I don't know if you want to formalise the 'alternative' in some way but there is at least one example that uses it, and given that the 'wrong' version is more common than the 'right' one I'm reluctant to just change it.
