(headw1)	上下関係
(kana1)	じょうげかんけい
(pos1)	n
(comment)	上下関係 【じょうげかんけい】 (n) hyponymy; belonging to a subclass
BTW, Have no idea what "hyponymy" means and don't care, the Japanese being so skillful in exhuming English vocabulary which no one has used for hundreds of years.
Problems:
1) This translation is completely wrong! And I'm sorry to seem disrespectful but I don't give a hoot what dictionaries say. I rely on my ear and living context.
2) This is currently the most talked about item among university students in Japan. BTW, I lived at Kyoto University for about two months quite recently and we had many long discussions (only in Japanese, thank you) late into the evening about how Japan is changing with regard to 上下関係. The changes in Japanese society (treatise also available if so desired) I experienced are indeed pleasantly shocking, my only caveat being "if they are not carried to an extreme".
What this now strongly debate concept incorporates is the hierarchy in Japanese society, specifically:
先輩 and 後輩. I can give you an entire treatise on this, if you wish, as I spent more than ten years in it.

Are you sure of the hiragana here?
伝 【てん】 (n) legend; tradition; life; biography; comment; communication
Rarely, do I see the て change to で at the beginning of the word. Anyway, I'm out of my league here, so I will defer to Paul. Oh yes, I know, I'm a pain in the botox.
