This information does not take into account the many non-Japanese people who have settled in Japan and are married to Japanese people. This entry is wrong because we non-Japanese are not officially allowed to take on our partner's name according to the family register laws. We are always an appendix of the family register in katakana unlike Japanese people who marry each other. So having separate names is permitted in Japan. My suggestion for this entry is to take out the part that says 'not permitted in Japan'. In certain cases it is forced.
