Headword 1 | 現職の |
Reading 1 | げんしょく の |
Part-of-speech | adj-no |
English 1 | incumbent |
Reference | Random House Japanese-English English-Japanese Dictionary, 1995. |
Comment | Your omission of this defintion came to light when I searched to verify my source:
----------------------------------------------------------- NHK News Headlines / Monday, November 6, 2006 #3,021 ----------------------------------------------------------- 3) The people of the Central Asian nation of Tajikistan are voting in a presidential election on Monday with incumbent Emomali Rahmonov widely expected to win. 1) incumbent 現職(げんしょく)の |

Editorial Comment | ~の adjectives are usually indicated with the "adj-no" POS, but don't have the の in the entry. I have added "adj-no" and extended the explanation to include incumbent. |
Headword 1 | 繋属 |
Reading 1 | けいぞく |
Part-of-speech | n,vs |
English 1 | relationship |
English 2 | pendency (of a legal case) |
Comment | Finding commonality between "relationship" and "pendency (of a legal case) is a bit difficult
The following entries for "pending; undecided" are much clearer: 未定 【みてい】 (adj-na,n) not yet fixed; undecided; pending 未決 【みけつ】 (n) pending; undecided 未解決 【みかいけつ】 (adj-na,n) unsettled; pending; unresolved 不決定 【ふけってい】 (n) pending; unsettled; undecided This form, btw, is one giant step forward. Much time saved! |

Editorial Comment | 繋属 seems to have two senses: relationship/connection/affiliation and pending in the sense of a pending legal case. I have extended the entry. |

Headword 1 | 三百代言 |
Reading 1 | さんびゃくだいげん |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | pettifogging lawyer |
Comment | "pettifogging" lawyer? Oh, my, I pride myself on my vocabulary, though this one escapes me as I believe it would most earthlings. I of course could guess that a pettifogger was not the best of lawyers, and Merriam-Webster suggested "shyster" instead. Shyster of course comes from the German "sheist". I gather that 三百代言 is what we in America call a "shyster; ambulance chaser". |

Submission Type | amend |
Editorial Comment | Perhaps pettifogger is not known in AmEng. Most of the JEs use pettifogger & pettifogging lawyer. I'll add "unscrupulous or unethical lawyer" and shyster (certainly AmEng). |

Comment | Wow! This compound is so general. I see primary "inquiry" or "reference" elsewhere. This kind of compound I can only understand with context and the example sentence (singular) is hardly adequate. It has a P rating some articulation should be in order. |

Comment | Hello. I just wanted to suggest an ammendment to the English translation to one of the Japanese phrases found under 欺く 【あざむく】. The Japanese entry: 敵を欺くにはまず味方から 【てきをあざむくにはまずみかたから】 is translated as, "in fooling the enemy first deceive your allies," but I believe it should be "in fooling the enemy, first become allies." It makes more sense to me, in English and in Japanese. I hope this helps! |

Comment | I'm sorry but I like consistency. Why in the world is the #1 reading 情況証拠 when 状況 is the reading for じょうきょう = circumstances. I'm sure that by now you have written me of a pedantic grunt. Sorry, Jim. (And, no, there is no sarcasm here. I just like consistency, consistently right or consistently wrong.) |

Comment | There is currently an entry for "wakeiseijaku" (和敬静寂) that does not appear in dictionary.goo.ne.jp.
Might want to check that one in Kojien or something, as I think it might be a misprint of the word I'm submitting now. Seeing as 静 doesn't mean "pure", I'm guessing that it's a mistake. |

Your 和敬清寂 version is in 大辞林 and GG5. The 和敬静寂 came from
Kanji Haitani's 四字熟語 collection. I notice せいじゃく only maps to
静寂 in dictionaries and IMEs, which may be why 和敬静寂 is more
popular in the WWW by over 2:1. I'll add your 和敬清寂 to the 和敬静寂 entry and consult Kanji. |
