New Entries/Amendments for 2006-11-13

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 13 Nov.
Current Entry相互通信 [そうごつうしん] /(n) intercommunication/

English 1intercommunication
CommentIs this "inter-communication" electronic (telecommunications) or personal?
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment It's a good question, but I bet you could have answered it yourself. (It appears to be able to be used generally, but is most commonly used in telelcomms contexts. Just like the English really.)

Headword 2双互
Reading 1そうご
Part-of-speechn

CommentAlthough it's a bit dated and perhaps too cold-war specific, what are your thoughts on the inclusion of 相互確実破壊 = Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD)?

Editorial Comment Probably worth an entry. Why don't you create one?

Headword 1物産会社
Reading 1ぶっさんがいしゃ
Part-of-speechn
English 1products trading company
ReferenceAlmost all the words that end in 〜会社 are read がいしゃ、not かいしゃ。 When I enter ぶっさんかいしゃ, my IME (ATOK 14) yields 物産かいしゃ、but ぶっさんがいしゃ yields 物産会社. Also, the mother of all 物産会社,「三井物産会社」, is read みついぶっさんがいしゃ in this apparently reliable source:
http://kids.city.hikone.shiga.jp/senkaku/06.html

CommentA 物産会社 is essentially a "trading company" (商社)that engages in buying/importing and selling/exporting various products of regions/countries. Any "manufacturing" it may do is small-scale and localized, and is secondary to its primary function, which is "trading."

Editorial Comment Added a ぶっさんがいしゃ reading and marked the ぶっさんかいしゃ as "ik".

Editorial Comment Seems this is alternative kanji form of: 放埒 (ほうらつ) (adj-na,n) licentious; profligate; dissipated. The dictionaries have 放埒, but 放埓 wins on WWW hits. My IME has both, with 放埓 leading.

Current Entry混血 [こんけつ] /(n,vs) (sens) mixed race/mixed parentage/(P)/
Headword 1混血
Reading 1こんけつ
Part-of-speechn,vs
English 1(sens) mixed race
English 2mixed parentage
CommentOh my, Oh my! Sorry to be so persistent but all of these need (sens) markers:
混血の人 【こんけつのひと】 (n) mixed race person [G][GI][S][A]
混血児 【こんけつじ】 (n) child of mixed blood or race

I mean when you say something like 混血 people wince, though understand. The borrowed word "half" is used instead, and such offspring are desired as models in Japan, Hong Kong, and throughout Asia. Here is what I put in my list, if it helps,

1) 混血 こんけつ kon-ketsu = mixed race (literally means “mixed blood” such that nowadays it should never be applied to people, only dogs and other animals)
2) 混血児 こんけつじ kon-ketsu-ji = child of mixed race (vulgar)

I know we "been there, done that" but the problem persists, with only one sens marker.
