New Entries/Amendments for 2006-11-24

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: Nov 24.

Current Entry関して [かんして] /(n) about/regarding/as for/
Headword 1関して
Reading 1かんして
Part-of-speechn
English 1about
English 2regarding
English 3as for
CommentIs this entry required considering we have
に関して 【にかんして】 (exp) related to; in relation to
?

If it is kept then surely it's more of a (exp) than an (n).
NamePaul Blay
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Hmmm. I think both are looked up. Yes, exp.

Headword 1御冠
Headword 2お冠
Reading 1
Part-of-speechadj-na
Part-of-speechn
English 1bad -tempered
English 2ill-humoured
English 3in a bad mood
English 4angry
《have, throw》 a fit of bad temper; 《be in》 a bad temper; 《文》 《show》 displeasure.

Yahoo!Japan

Comment「怒る、怒っている」has two main meanings: (1) 腹を立てる, and (2) 不機嫌になる。 「おかんむり」is more (2) than (1).

Usually written おかんむり、and sometimes お冠、but seldom
The Google hits on 御冠 almost invariably refers to

Headword 1
Headword 2
Headword 3
Reading 1
Reading 2
Part-of-speechn
English 1lung cancer
CommentWouldn't 肺癌 be a better choice for headword, given my love of consistency and the following entries:
胃癌 いがん i-gan = stomach cancer
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment There is no single headword in JMdict/EDICT2. 肺がん, 肺癌 and 肺ガン are listed in order of usage.

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1poisoned sake
CommentI am way out on a limb on this one, but from organic chemistry I know that hangovers are cause by impurities, specifically ketones and aldehydes. Would not a better rendering be "alcohol poisoning"? The alternative understanding being sake brewed improperly and hence having methanol (cause blindness) inpurities. Dunno.
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Every reference says "poisoned sake/alcohol". I think you are on a limb.

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1food poisoning
CommentThis may or not be of interest but 食中毒 is usually abbreviated to 食毒.
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Newspaper and WWW frequencies show 食中毒 is quite common, and 食毒 quite rare.

Headword 1救急
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1first-aid
CommentCould this rendering be off? I think it should be "emergency" with 救急処置 being "first aid".
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment It seems to be used for both first-aid (i.e. medical-specific) and emergency. I'll add emergency.

Headword 1減食
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn,vs

CommentThis does not mean "diet" in the sense of one's everyday diet; rather it means "a diet for weight loss" as in 減食する.
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Yes, it does.
