New Entries/Amendments for 2006-12-08

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: Dec 8.
Headword 1用言
Reading 1ようげん
Part-of-speechn
English 1declinable (inflectable) word
ReferenceOxford English Dectionary 2nd Ed:

declinable: capable of being declined;... having case-inflexions

decline: To inflect (a noun, adjective, or pronoun) through
its different cases;... Also used more widely, or loosely, of
verbs (for which the proper word is CONJUGATE).
CommentI don't think changing the meaning to "declinable (conjugatable)
word" is wise since conjugation refers to the inflection of
verbs whereas 用言 includes more than 動詞. So, how about
changing "conjugatable" to "inflectable"? Note the definition
of 体言 in EDICT is "(n) uninflected word."

Editorial Comment I'll make it: declinable word/inflectable word.

Current Entry玉 [たま(P);だま] /(n,n-suf) ball/sphere/coin/staple (for a stapler)/(P)/
Headword 1
Reading 1たま
Reading 2だま
Part-of-speechn,n-suf
English 1ball
English 2sphere
English 3coin
English 4staple (for a stapler)
CommentIs it not the case that the standard reading is たま and だま only applies when used as a suffix?

I'm not sure if だま should be taken out, some sort of note added, the "(n-suf)" be given a separate gloss or the (n-suf) be in a separate entry.
NamePaul Blay

Editorial Comment I think I'll remove だま. GG5 et al. don't bother with 連濁ed versions.
