CommentRegarding ...

庇を貸して母屋を取られる。
You give them an inch and they take a yard.

New example sentences are certainly welcomed, providing they 'add to the coverage' (in terms of words, usage or grammar) and they come with translations. However they should be sent to my email or in through the Examples comment submission form.

Also established proverbs like
庇を貸して母屋を取られる。
You give them an inch and they take a yard.
should probably be submitted as new (exp) Edict entries _not_ as an example sentence.
On that line, here's a dictionary reference.

Current Entry拝聴 [はいちょう] /(n,vs) enjoyment/
Headword 1拝聴
Reading 1はいちょう
Part-of-speechn,vs
English 1(hum) to listen
ReferenceGenius JE2:
その問題についてご意見を拝聴したい

The game 逆転裁判:
その美しい声も拝聴しました
CommentThis is a bit of a bizarre mistake. 拝聴 is just a 謙譲語 lexical substitute for 聴く, bearing the same relationship to that verb as 拝見 does to 見る, 拝読 to 読む, 拝受 to 受ける, etc. I gave the definition as the vs form "to listen" rather than the noun form "listening," since verbs of this sort are used relatively rarely as nouns. Of course, this is the sort of humble verb that can only be used when the thing being listened to is something belonging to or otherwise pertaining to the the person you're showing respect to, but I'm not at all sure how to mark that in the dictionary entry. It might be worth modifying the humble tags to allow markup for the referent-/non-referent-specific dichotomy within 謙譲語.

Current Entry実の有る [みのある] /(adj) solid/substantial/
Headword 1実の有る
Reading 1みのある
Part-of-speechexp,adj
English 1solid
English 2substantial
CommentI'm not keen on these "adj" entries that are neither fish nor fowl. Maybe we could have adj-i to go along with adj-na and use adj for all the stuff that doesn't fall into the other two categories?

Now 実の無い provokes a problem. Should
a) the 実の有る entry have a v5r-i added
or
b) there be a separate 実の無い(みのない) entry. I think the latter is probably better but I'm not fixed on that position.

If b) then a "(See also 実の無い(みのない))" (antonym) or similar could be in order.
NamePaul Blay

Editorial Comment The whole POS structure for adjectives needs reworking, both in terms of defining categories and amending the markup. I'm leaving 実の有る as "exp" for now. Yes, a 実の無い entry is useful.
