Comment | Gilbert's syndrome (pr. Zhil-bear), often shortened to the acronym GS, is the most common hereditary cause of increased bilirubin, and is found in up to 5% of the population. The main symptom is otherwise harmless jaundice which does not require treatment, caused by elevated levels of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream (hyperbilirubinemia).
The source of this hyperbilirubinemia is reduced activity of the enzyme (glucuronyl transferase) which conjugates bilirubin and some other lipophilic molecules. Conjugation renders the bilirubin water-soluble and suitable for excretion via the kidneys. |

(oK) is warranted here? used in 如し [ごとし] (oK) (n) (uk) like, as if, the same as. but not listed in other words with this kanji, such as 如く [ごとく] (n) like, as |

Editorial Comment |
The oK is probably not warranted. GG5, which has many kana-only entries, shows
如き and 如し.
如く is clearly an adverb. I'm not sure 如き is "adj-pn", there's not much prenominal about it. GG5 points 如き and 如く to 如し, and writes them as -如き, -如く and -如し. For -如し it references -よう. When you get common usage like "秋田のごときは...." (places like Akita) and "彼ごときに.." (by people like him), "adj-pn" doesn't really fit. Maybe "n,suf". |
