Comment | Regarding "online expression equivalent to LOL (typed as "w")"
The online expression typed as 'w' (usually in place of the 。of a sentence) derives from (笑) which in turn is read わらい. While なるほど may sometimes be used in humour I fail to see the connection to 'w'. |

Comment | It seems odd to me that this dictionary would not include an entry for this very common compound. (Google turns up over a million hits.)
It is many times more common than the only other entry for "copier" in this dictionary (only around 300 on Google, several of those seemed to be Chinese pages or very technical articals with dense kanji counts.) I think that it ought to be added. I'd want to mark it (P) as well, but perhaps it's not used enough for that. What could be more common for this device, I don't know. |

Comment | Sorry to appear arrogant, but I am notorious for quite an adequate vocabulary in English perhaps a result of too many years teaching SAT, GRE and GMAT. I doubt therefore that "peculate" would be understood by many. Kind of looks like a "cut and paste" from a Japanese dictionary, the last bastion of arcane English. |

Editorial Comment |
You had me scratching my head here. Where the hell did "peculate" come from?
Then the penny dropped; I bet you are referring to the entry for 使い込む.
To be frank I don't mind the appearance of "to peculate" there. It's after
"to embezzle; to misappropriate", and has a nice Dickensian feel to it. If
I can help a few people learn new English words; all the better.
Should I add "peculation" to the gloss for 使い込み? 8-)} |

Comment | The important difference is that 大き is nowhere near being a 形容動詞, because 形容動詞 have set inflection patterns. 大きな does not inflect. (i.e. You can say 大きな象だ, but you can't say 大きでない象だ like you could if it were a normal na-adjective.)
Further, it can only be used as an attributive, never as a predicative. (i.e. You can say 大きな象だ, but you can't say 象は大きだ like you could if it were a normal na-adjective.) Those aren't stylistic errors, they're really, really, really bad grammatical ones. 大きな and 小さな can be used as set-phrase attributives only--this is adj-pn, not adj-na. I don't think we need both 大きな and 大き. Delete the latter, as it doesn't accurately reflect the way that the word is used. Usage of 大き and 小さ (in their true roles as nouns, prefixes or naru-adjectives) seem limited to archaic contexts, and since I've never seen them used outside a dictionary (my normal criterion for submission), I say dump them. |

Reference | The new meanings that have been added are somewhat twisted because _all_ the example sentences provided include 連想する ("mentally associate").
Here's the 大辞林 example, which clearly does not imply "mental association": このところずっと、休日というと、必ず雨が降る。 Needless to say, if one combines a phrase expressing the concept of inevitability with 連想する, it will result in an expression meaning "if you say X you think Y/one associates X with Y". Therefore, all of the provided examples are of the original sense: [A]というと[Bを連想する] If it's [A], I inevitably [associate it with B]. >From ALC: 〜というと…(の名前)を連想する associate the name of ~ with The 連想する is _required_ in order for it to take on the new definitions that have been added. Perhaps worth an entry on its own, but it's not what's implied by というと itself. |
