Current Entry何にも [なんにも] /(adv) nothing/
Headword 1何にも
Reading 1なんにも
Part-of-speechadv
English 1(See 何も) nothing at all
Reference大辞林 何にも(なんにも):
(副)〔補説〕 「なにも(何)」の転
[1]何事にも。
   そんなことをしても―ならない
[2](打ち消しの語を伴って)何一つ。少しも。全く。
位も財産も―ない 私は―知らない
CommentAdding "(See 何も).
Meaning changed from the simple "nothing" to "nothing at all."
I think this makes the meaning clearer.

Headword 1何にも増して
Headword 2何にもまして
Reading 1なににもまして
Part-of-speechexp
Part-of-speechadv
English 1above all else
English 2more than anything
ReferenceGG5 何にも増して
何にも増して 54,700 何にもまして 76,300
Comment「何にも」in this phrase is not the same as 何にも(なんにも), which expresses a negative meaning (打ち消し). Here, 何にも=何+にも、and, as such, should not be read なんにも。

Headword 1何にも勝る
Reading 1なににもまさる
Part-of-speechexp
Part-of-speechadj
English 1surpassing everything
English 2better than anything
Reference何にも勝る 31,400
CommentAgain, this 何にも does not have a negative meaning, and should not be read なんにも。
The negative なんにも can be replaced by 何も(なにも)、whereas this 何にも (= 何+にも) cannot. One of the 8 usage examples of 何にも(なんにも)「彼女にとって息子の成長は何にも勝る喜びだった。」is misplaced. This 「何にも」is 何(なに)+ にも、not なんにも.

Current Entry何にも [なににも] /(n,int) everything/all/(P)/
Headword 1何にも
Reading 1なににも
Part-of-speechexp,adv
English 1everything
English 2all
ReferenceChanging n,int to exp,adv.
CommentThis is simply 何(なに)+にも、and is not the same as the negative adverb 何にも(なんにも).

The [P] marker should be moved to the 何にも(なんにも)entry, and all of the 8 usage examples (except for: 「彼女にとって息子の成長は何にも勝る喜びだった。」which correctly belongs here) should also be moved to the same gloss.

Editorial Comment Yes, the "P" came from a newspaper ranking, which would not have been able to distinguish between なんにも and なににも for 何にも.

English 2(2) zaire (currency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo)

"コンゴ民主共和国" = 381k hits
Commentseeing as zaire hasn't existed since around the time that wwwjdic was born, and gets less than 250k hits, should this really be (P)?
NameRene Malenfant
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I'll take off the P. The "gai1" counts are newspaper-based, and it seems the term was still used in Japan 10 years ago. Those "gai1" tags badly need revising.
