CommentRegarding "daijirin seems to say that it refers specifically to 下水溝..."

That appears to be the case but 下水溝 does not necessarily mean sewage. Dirty rain water off roads and waste water from washing-up is one thing, do they really have sewage running down the side of the road a foot or so under some boarding?

Editorial Comment 棄死 is in Nelson, not that he was ultra-reliable. It's used in a few Japanese pages, e.g. the Wikipedia article on 楊継盛, and plainly means the same as 棄市. One of the pages in which it occurs is a parallel Chinese/Japanese text, and it's in the Chinese. I'm inclined to leave it in with 棄市, but mark it iK.

CommentRegarding
"For 言うところ, GG5 has a sub-entry under 言う, which just has an example:
あの岩が青木氏の言うところの「らくだ岩」だ.
How about "known as", "is called"?"

Not too convinced about that - does GG5 include the 'の' as part of the phrase being defined? 言うところの has under half the hits for 言うところ although it probably does constitute the largest single usage. Other notable cases include ...

言うところで 280,000
言うところに 173,000
言うところは 91,400

However there probably needs to be distinction made between の言うところ / が言うところ and というところ (uk) (most hits come from the latter).

I shall try a couple of entries based on those.
NamePaul Blay

Editorial Comment Yes, the GG5 sub-entry is "言うところの".
I'll drop the の and make it (exp,adj-no), and also drop yesterday's draft entry.
