New Entries/Amendments for 2007-01-29

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

Headword 1打開策
Reading 1だかいさく
Part-of-speechn
English 1plan to overcome an obstacle or break out of a deadlock

CommentThere is an example sentence for 打開策 that is listed under the 打開 example link, but doesn't show up for 打開策. I don't know if this is any sort of priority, but it's just something I noticed. Thanks.

Headword 1勝手

Part-of-speechadj-na,n
English 2one's own convenience
English 3one's way

CommentI removed 'kitchen' from the definition of this word. I'm not even sure it was pertinent to begin with. My apologies, though, if in some obscure way it was meant to remain there.
NameLy Nguyen
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment 勝手 = kitchen is pretty well established. E.g.:
Koujien: 台所。くりや。
Daijirin: (1)台所。「―道具」
Kenkyusha: 〈台所〉 a kitchen.
In modern Japanese usage that sense is not commonly encountered, so I'll lower it in the senses. Eijiro has the following:
あなたは本当にキッチンの勝手がよく分かっていますね。 : You certainly do know your way around a kitchen!
which seems a bit tautological.
