http://ecagents.istc.cnr.it/dllink.php?id=179&type=Document http://nootropic.blogspot.com/2005/07/music-buy-vs-rent-experience-value.html Not certain if it is "experienced value" or "experience value". It seems to be the value that a product is assessed at based - not on costs, quality or function - but on the 'experience' of a customer using it. Possibly based on so-called "Experiential Marketing" This isn't really my area of expertise so if somebody else wants to make amendments/additions please feel free. |

Comment | Response to the Editorial Comment "The only thing that has gone was Paul's "(location) be ... にある, にいる". Should that still be in the 也/なり entry?"
OK, perhaps it should. How about adding it back as sense 2? (Instead of giving up using the なり form for the location sense --as I previously suggested--, we are now adding it in the 也/なり entry, but inserting (usu.なる) and (See なる). (I think it's very rare to see the なり form in this sense; it's almost always in the なる form.) |

"The fundamental practice of Soka Gakkai and SGI members is derived from Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, a form of Nichiren Buddhism[4]. However, due to a number of ongoing issues and disputes that existed between then High Priest Nikken Abe and the leadership of Soka Gakkai, Nichiren Shoshu excommunicated Soka Gakkai and SGI, and later SGI President Daisaku Ikeda in 1992. At that time, Soka Gakkai was a lay organization closely affiliated with Nichiren Shoshu. SGI and Nichiren Shoshu are independent of one another." |
Comment | please *don't* change the entry, as was suggested in an amendment yesterday
daijirin still lists soka gakkai as a 講社 of nichiren, but i believe that's merely since it hasn't been updated since they were split perhaps "Soka Gakkai (lay organization based on Nichiren Buddhism) (organisation)" or something... |

i don't think this word is as bad as かっぺ, but, still, 大辞林 says 田舎者をさげすんでいう語, so it's probably vulg-worthy. |

Comment | this entry is a little confusing... perhaps it should be split?
according to daijirin: 丈夫 (じょうふ) = sense (1) only 丈夫 (じょうぶ) = sense (1) and (2) 丈夫 (ますらお) = sense (1) only 益荒男 (ますらお) = sense (1) only the "(丈夫 only)" doesn't suffice to indicate this, as it fails to distinguish between じょうぶ and じょうふ pronunciations, perhaps "(じょうぶ only)" also, a (gikun) tag on the 丈夫 (ますらお) entry might be warranted, and *perhaps* an ateji tag on 益荒男 (ますらお) last, the じょうぶ and じょうふ reading entries should be switched, as じょうぶ is obviously the more common reading (i've already done this above). |

I'll soldier on for now with the one entry. Reversed the じょうふ and
じょうぶ, and made the restriction じょうぶ.
I have trouble marking ますらお as both gikun and ateji. Perhaps this aspect needs revisiting with the future database. |

Comment | combining this entry with 敵う 【かなう】 (v5u) to match
daijirin also lists 叶う 【かなう】 (v5u) to come true (wish) in the same entry, but restricts the senses, so i don't see a reason to combine them here current definition is pretty off, so changing that as well 適う can be used for all three senses 敵う is used for sense (3) only. |

This is a tough one.
Daijirin and Koujien only have a 叶う/適う entry, but add things like "「敵う」とも書き" or "(多く「敵う」と書く)" for some senses. The Sanseido Exceed (SE), Sanseido Grand Concise (GC), Kenkyusha chuujiten (KC) and GG5 all break them into three distinct entries. I'll try and summarize the sense allocations. 叶う GC(1 & 3), SE(1), KC(1 & 3), GG5(1) 適う GC(2), SE(2), KC(2), GG5(2 & 4) 敵う GC(4), SE(4), KC(4), GG5(4) This is far from precise, as in some cases (1) and (3) are in the one sense. All of that indicates a fairly strong differentiation between them. There is probably a good case for keeping them apart. If merged they should be marked "usu. 適う" for sense 2, etc. I might leave it there for discussion before acting. |
