These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

CommentI think it is misleading to include Sense 4 ( (pref) very; totally) in the same entry as 度(n,n-suf). It seems that the 「ど」 of Sense 4 (強調接頭語「ど」) has little to do with the kanji 度. How about presenting " ど (pref) (uk) very; totally " as a separate entry?

are these being kept for some particular reason, or should they be dumped? a search for "cf" in edict brings up these other hits, using this system:

Referenceオープンソースは技術革新をドライブするエンジンである。
Open source is the engine that drives technological innovation.
CommentTried to split the senses up so the (pos) could be made clear.

(2) has lots of をドライブする but generally for the "through an area" use of を like in 公園を歩く. I would call (2) (vt) except that confusingly there are some instances of "車をドライブする".

Possibly it should be
(2) (vs,vi) to (go for a) drive
(3) (See also 運転) (vs,vt) to drive (e.g. a car)
(4) (See also 推進) (vs,vt) to drive (innovation)

2,3 and 4 are arguably all different meanings of 'drive'. Well, I'll leave that to Jim (and anybody else who wants to chip in).

Current Entry敵う [かなう] /(v5u) to match/
Headword 1敵う
Reading 1かなう
Part-of-speechv5u,vi
English 1to make for a good match
English 2to be an adequate rival
English 3to be able to hold one's own
Reference(4)(多く「敵う」と書く)対抗できるほどである。匹敵する。打ち消し表現を伴って用いる。
Commentif you do decide to keep the かなう's separate, the def's should at least be changed a little bit.

the current entry "match", to me implies that one's shoes "match" one's belt, rather than the true meaning

also adding (vi)

Current Entry適う [かなう] /(v5u,vi) to be suited/
Headword 1適う
Reading 1かなう
Part-of-speechv5u,vi
English 1to be in conformance (with a stipulation, one's ideals, etc.)
Reference2)(基準や条件などに)適合する。《適》
「理想に―・った人」「時宜に―・う」「潮も―・ひぬ今は漕ぎ出でな/万葉 8」
Commentagain, if keeping them apart, this def should be tweaked a bit

this def also needs to one of the かなうs somewhere:
(3)(動作性の名詞などを受け、下に打ち消し表現を伴って)…することができる。…することが許される。
「足が弱って歩行も―・わない」

you've suggested that some dictionaries merge this together with:
(1)願望が実現する。《叶》
「念願が―・った」「―・わぬ恋」

So maybe "to be capable of doing something/to be allowed to do something" should be added to the definition for 叶う?

Current Entry独逸(P);独乙;独 [どいつ(P);ドイツ] /(n) Germany (nl: Duits)/(P)/
Headword 1独逸
Headword 2独乙
Headword 3
Reading 1どいつ
Reading 2ドイツ
Part-of-speechn
English 1German (nl: Duits)
CommentThe Dutch part says Duits, which is either an adjective for things German or a noun for the German language. So based on that, plus the fact that Germany has an entry as 独国, I would be inclined to amend this to German. I have no reference works near me to verify though.
