New Entries/Amendments for 2007-03-10

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 21 March.

English 2to seethe
English 3(2) to arise
English 4to break out

CommentAgain 大辞林 has two separate entries, but probably not so clearly divided a 沸く vs 湧く. For one thing the (rare) 涌き上がる is in both.

http://dic.yahoo.co.jp/dsearch?enc=UTF-8&p=腴&stype=0&dtype=0
CommentI think this entry is pretty messed up and should be divided to at least three entries to make it clearer.

Procedures in tea ceremony are most commonly called 点前 (てまえ). They can also be 点前 (たてまえ) and 立前 (たてまえ), but these words are rarely used (as far as I can tell; I'm practicing tea ceremony at Urasenke Moscow branch). They are not called 建前.

Official stance can be 建前 (たてまえ), or, less frequently, 立前 (たてまえ), but it can't be 点前.

Also, 立前 (たちまえ) can mean "before going off to journey" or "salary, earnings".

Editorial Comment It was indeed messed up, as the kanji/sense restrictions were wrong. I have fixed them now (I hope). I want to keep the one entry as the three clear senses of たてまえ all have overlapping kanji versions.

Headword 1大政翼賛会

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A4%A7%E6%94%BF%E7%BF%BC%E8%B3%9B%E4%BC%9A

And for an academic reference, I ran into the Japanese term in the following text on Fascism in Japan:

Shibata Toshio, Nihon no Fashizumu, 1979, Yūhikaku, p. 191:

全体主義独裁政党を代表し、日本では大政翼賛会が、また「満州国」の協和会もその意味では一党独裁制を目指していたといえよう。
CommentThe IRAA is a well-known name for anyone studying modern Japanese history. If historical terms are accaptable, this one is probably notable enough for inclusion.

CommentThe 溶ける entry already notes that 解ける is sometimes used but I think there should be some indication in both entries. (I just got an example sentence feedback indicating that

雪は解け去った。
The snow has melted away.

has the wrong kanji).

In fact the numbers are a lot closer than you might think...

"雪が溶ける" 33,600
