Current Entry | 点 [てん] /(n,n-suf) (1) spot/mark/(2) point/dot/(n-suf) (3) counter for goods or items/(P)/ |
Headword 1 | 点 |
Reading 1 | てん |
Part-of-speech | n,n-suf |
English 1 | (1) spot |
English 2 | mark |
English 3 | (2) point |
English 4 | dot |
English 5 | (3) mark (e.g. in exam) |
English 6 | score |
English 7 | points |
English 8 | (n-suf) (4) counter for goods or items |
Comment | The distinction between (1) and (2) looks a little blurry to me.
Given that (1) includes 'spot' and 'mark' I assume that the mark in question is a physical one not a numerical one. |

English 2 | simple (lit: "even if you're an idiot or a simpleton") |
Comment | This is kind of a racist term for Koreans.

Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | Yukar |
Reference | Yukar instead of Yucar.

Comment | The spelling of "Yucar" doesn't seem to occur in scholarly references for as for as Google Scholar sees them, and Wikipedia uses "Yukar" as well.
A web search with Google for "ainu yucar" points only to Edict files. |

Comment | After a night's sleep (not that I got much) I'm having another go a this. The sense given first in 大辞林 with the example 〜とした腕 appears to be much less frequent. In fact I was unable to find an example that was clearly talking about physical narrowness. As such I have re-ordered the senses.
I was able to find examples of the (now) sense (2) so I added that. |
