CommentRan across the proposed usage (2) while browsing Wikipedia. Was confused until I realized the text on the chart was deliberately red (they weren't missing pages when clicked.) Then I noticed the small explaination in the corner.

In theory, I guess, one might consider entries for the other common text colors used in scheduals, charts, and such: 黒字;青字;緑字;perhaps 紫字 and 茶字.

Commentrichard's referenced wiki article makes it exceptionally clear that this is a man's name, and that the reading is かつちか, not ゆうしん:

Eijiro has:
■動物の雄親 : sire

and Kenkyusha's 医学 dictionary has "雄親 sire".
雄親 is getting enough relevant WWW hits to keep, and I guess the reading of ゆうしん is likely to be right.
