Current Entry夕べ(P);夕(P) [ゆうべ(P);ゆう(夕)(P)] /(n-adv,n-suf,n-t) evening/(P)/
Headword 1夕べ
Headword 2
Reading 1ゆうべ
Reading 2ゆう
Part-of-speechn-adv,n-suf,n-t
English 1evening
Comment夕べ and 夕 doesn't mean the same thing. 夕べ has the same meaning as 昨夜 - last night (which can also be read ゆうべ, although apparently Japanese people don't know that). 夕 has the same meaning as 夕方 - evening. Which is what this entry is actually for. Or at least that's what every Japanese person will say, and also all example sentences with 夕べ also has the meaning "last night" not "evening". Therefore I suggest that this entry is split into two individual entries. And possibly have 夕べ added to the 昨夜 entry.

Headword 1夕べ
Headword 2
Reading 1ゆうべ
Reading 2ゆう
Part-of-speechn-adv,n-suf,n-t
English 1evening
Comment夕 (w.o. the べ) is read ゆうべ enough to keep these together, imo, even if the meaning is not identical, this can be fixed with restrictions.

it may be messy, but i do think that there should be a merge with 昨夜(ゆうべ) here, as in my experience, "last night" is sometimes written as 夕べ as well.

the dictionaries have:
kojien - 昨夜(ゆうべ) & 夕べ in the same entry, but separates completely:「昨夜」と書く。
daijisen - both are ok:「昨夜」とも書く
daijirin - both are ok: 多く「昨夜」と書く

so the following entry might be complex, but would be "complete":
夕べ(ゆうべ)、夕(ゆう、ゆうべ)、昨夜(さくや、ゆうべ)
1) (夕べ, 夕 only) evening
2) (ゆうべ, さくや only) last night

if too complex, 夕(ゆう)could be dropped and given its own entry, while retaining 夕(ゆうべ)

also, are we sure about the n-suf usage?

Editorial Comment Richard, I hope you are reading this:
- PLEASE write the English portions correctly. A space is needed before a "(". I have to amend many of your submissions.
- the Japanese is a compound noun/multiword expression, but you have put in the English as a verb. Try to match the speech parts.
- be far more critical about what you are submitting, especially for multiword expressions which are really just two common words in a sequence. This one appears to be just 我慢 and 辛抱. Nothing special. MWEs should ideally be entered when they have an application of nuance which is not clear from the components, or when they are very common (not the case here.)

Commenti disagree with the validity of this entry.

one link provided is lyrics from a song (that granted i've never heard), but i believe that if you listened to it, you'd find that the words are sung separately. "我慢、辛抱"

the other does not use "我慢辛抱" but rather "辛抱我慢" which tends to reinforce my belief that they're just two similar words thrown together for emphasis or variation

"我慢辛抱" gets 771 hits, almost every one of which places a comma, midpoint dot, etc. between the two

Commenthmmm, well my complain about the suru wasn't really about numbers, but about common sense usage, which should say that 臨終する is kinda strange (although clearly not as strange as 自転車する.) the numbers were just support.

if people are getting away with saying even stuff like 自転車する, perhaps we should apply the same standards to suru verb tags that we have for teki entries? a reference from a major dictionary? daijirin is usually pretty good at listing する verbs

CommentQuick note to my previous amendment. Since I saw this written as Kanji, I do not know the pronounciation of it. It could be てき? I don't know enough Japanese to know.

Editorial Comment More likely ふえ when it is used alone. The ON reading of てき would more likely be used in compounds like 警笛.

Commenta little more info...

kojien makes no mention of 従軍慰安婦 in their entry, daijirin does (at goo.ne.jp), but doesn't (at yahoo). wikipedia says that this association is a mistake

is 能 necessary as a headword? dictionaries don't have it, and keeping it in here adds confusion with 能(のう)
