I have a bit of a problem with such a merger. Three other references
(GG5, Sanseido Grand Concise and Kodansha GJD) all split firmly
between 冊子/さっし and 草紙|草子|双紙/そうし. The GJD does add "▽冊子"
at the end of the others for そうし. For さっし GG5 has "a booklet; a pamphlet; a brochure", and for "a storybook (in the Edo period)". The GJD has pretty much what you suggest above.
I think it's best to keep them apart, but I'll rebuild the そうし entry as you suggest, and put the 冊子 version last. |

i think i mentioned when i submitted the entry for ク活用 (or perhaps one of its cousins) that we might consider PoS tags for the classical inflections (ク活用 and シク活用 for i-adjectives). it would eliminate the need to enter things like 幼き、幼し, etc. tags are the way kojien and daijirin go. for example, for the entry for 楽しい, both have: （形）[文]シク たの・し the new tags would be easy enough to assign automatically. AFAIK, all adjectives ending in しい or じい are シク, and all others are ク. then again, because it's so easy to figure out which is which, perhaps there's no need for the tags? maybe we can just expect users to know this like we expect them to know the modern verb inflections when they look up their words. other than the predicative form (from which is impossible to distinguish if the word is ク活用 or シク活用), all other inflections of classical forms are unique, so it's simple to guess what the base form is. either way, i guess there has to be a policy decision on how to handle words like 幼き, 弱き、高し, etc. that are easily derived from the original adjective but not really accounted for anywhere in the system at present |
