Current Entry混交 [こんこう] /(n,vs) mixture/intermixture/

Headword 2混淆
Headword 3渾淆
Reading 1こんこう
Part-of-speechn,vs
English 1(1) mixture
English 2intermixture
English 3(2) contamination (creation of unorthodox words or phrases by combining terms of similar form or meaning)
Commentnew sense. daijirin lists the 2nd sense as "contamination" in english, although i've never heard the word used in the sense they and kojien suggest. sounds almost like a portmanteau. eijiro suggests "creole", but the examples provided in koj & daij don't really support that.

when i submitted コンタミネーション and x-reffed it to this, i was thinking of it in the wikipedia sense, and assumed that was an alternate sense of this word.

anyway, new kanji headwords from kojien as well

CommentI'm not sure if this could be classed as an irregular kanji for 知る. I had trouble finding it in any dictionaries (online or paper), but it gets 130,000 hits on google, so not really rare. While a lot of places seem to use it as a synonym for 知る, in the novel I'm reading now it seems to be used in place of 知る to emphasize the fact that the knowledge was gained through personal experience. I'm not sure if these kinds of details are intended for the WWWJDIC? It could just be an iK for 知る. On a related note, the kanji entry for 識 seems to be missing the しる reading, which does appear in all of my paper dictionaries (and in the unihan database) except for the Kodansha kanji dict.
NameMatt Fagan
Submission Typenew
Editorial Comment 識る is in the しる/知る entry in Koujien and the Kodansha GJD. I'm not sure I can really justify giving a nuance to its usage. Added しる to the readings of 識.

Referencehttp://d.hatena.ne.jp/molicawa/20070223
CommentI would suggest that the two different kanji's are put into separate entries. As the reference says, 例え is a noun meaning "an example", and 仮令 is an adverb meaning "even if/although". My paper dictionaries also agree that they are different words, although it appears to be a common mistake.
NameMatt Fagan
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Entry split into two, and the 譬え/喩え entry merged with 例え, where it should have been all along. Also 縦え and 縦令 added to 仮令.

Current Entryカウ /(n) (see カウンター, モニ) (abbr) {comp} automatically responding with an upload slot to someone who allows you to download (e.g. in P2P systems)/TempSUB/FIX/

Part-of-speechn
English 1(see カウンター, モニ) (abbr) {comp} automatically responding with an upload slot to someone who allows you to download (e.g. in P2P systems)
English 2TempSUB
English 3FIX
Comment"May be a bit specific."
Possibly, but as an _abbreviation_ it, and モニ, are much more likely to be specific in meaning than the word it was derived from.

Unfortunately web searches on カウ/モニ alone return far too many false positives to be of any use.

Part-of-speechn
English 1down line
English 2route towards destination
Referencehttp://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/search.php?MT=下り線&kind=jn&mode=0&base=1&row=0
CommentIt most certainly isn't restricted to Tokyo.
Tried to add a translation based on the japanese definition.

Strange how 上り線 is missing from edict...
Although both 上り線 and 下り線 exist as seperate entries in the riverwater dictionary.
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I don't think it's "route towards destination". In railway parlance a "down line" goes away from the city centre, and an "up line" goes towards a city centre.
