Editorial Comment | I have doubts about this. ¤Þ¤¹-stem + ³¤¯ is very common and productive in Japanese, and I wonder bout attempting to include a lot of them. |

This is one of those cases where Japanese dictionaries are all over the place.
Koujien has an entry with ÅϤë and ¾Ä¤ë as headwords, but mentions both Ïˤë and Ïʤë in the text. Daijirin is much the same, but only mentions Ïˤë. the Kodansha GJD has a Ïˤë/Ïʤë entry, as well as a ÅϤë entry. GG5 has separate ÅϤë and Ïˤë entries. The Kenkyusha chuujiten has ÅϤë and Ïʤë as entries. The glosses for Ïˤë and Ïʤë are similar. the Sanseido EXCEED has ÅϤë and Ïʤë entries, pretty much like the Kenkyushas. Just going with the majority of dictionaries, I am inclined to have: ÅϤë/¾Ä¤ë - to cross, etc. Ïˤë/Ïʤë - to range, extend, span, but add comments that Ïˤë in particular is sometimes used for ÅϤë. How does that seem? |
