Commenti used edict's existing definitions to define these last two
"すると" forms. i'm not sure i trust them 100%... might be good to run both of them past gg5, as the daijr definition for ともすると contains "場合によっては" as an alternate phrasing, which makes me wonder if this really always means "apt to"

English 2(2) (履く only) to put on (or wear) footwear

English 4(4) to affix a bowstring to a bow
Commentsort by hits (except for 着く) and split senses (as suggested in koj, daijs, daijr)

restrictions required as indicated above
NameRene Malenfant
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I think the kokugos are being overly restrictive there. For example, the Sanseido EXCEED conflates 履く and 穿く, and GG5 doesn't even have 穿く, using 履く for both trousers and footwear. I think I'll merge the first two senses, and annotate "usu. Xく" rather than restrict.

Headword 1
Reading 1だん
Part-of-speechctr
English 1counter for parts (of a story etc)
ReferenceFrom a Japanese native:

The pronunciation of 第一弾 is だいいちだん

In this case, 弾 means "part". So 第一弾 means "Part one".
第二弾 means "part two".

CommentI can't find this use in 大辞泉 or 大辞林 but this particular use is everywhere, even in published materials. Perhaps it is related to 段.
NameBrandon Kentel

Editorial Comment Brandon, can you upgrade the punctuation a little, e.g., "of a story, etc." instead of "of a story etc".

Editorial Comment I prefer a lighter hand in breaking up into senses (I'm more of a "joiner" than "splitter" in lexicography.) The current two senses align with the approach in GG5, which I rather like. Your suggestions follow the 大辞林 pattern, which overdoes the splitting (I think its prescriptiveness is not matched in modern Japanese usage.)

Comment50k or so hits for the 旧字体 version.

There is quite a bit of old kana/kanji material in various places on the internet (like the above). Should most words have a 旧字体 variant added with a (oK) note? I'll refrain on adding any more 旧字体 variants for the time being.
NameBrandon Kentel
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Yes, probably a good idea to hold off for a while. In fact just adding 旧字体 variants can be done in batches, which will save us both a lot of keying.

CommentRemoved "the" in accordance with the old documentation [1]. Is this still the preference?

I've also noticed that some entries have "language" in parentheses (e.g., Indonesian (language)), but others do not (e.g., French language). Is there a specific reason for this?
