This one is quite a mess. The modern JEs all fix on 脇 for "side" and
腋 for under-the-arm. In fact the latter seems to be usually just わき.
Having said that, 脇の下 is four times more common than 腋の下; わきの下
is somewhere in between.
I'll extend the 脇 entry, bringing in 傍, etc, but leave そば/そく/かたわら/etc. alone for now. |
