Current Entryうっとりさせる /(v1) to enchant/to enthrall/
Headword 1うっとりさせる
Part-of-speechv1
English 1to enchant
English 2to enthrall
CommentAdd a (See うっとり)

I'm in two minds on this entry, there are far more うっとりする web hits than うっとりさせる but on the other hand you could make the case that the meaning of うっとりさせる might not be that obvious just given the うっとり entry.
NamePaul Blay
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Eijiro offers a perspective. It has heaps of hits for うっとりさせる; most as noun-modifiers. It's similar with うっとりする, but that is more clearly passive. Perhaps I'll extend the うっとり entry for the vs case.

Current Entryうっとり /(n,vs,adv) abstractedly/absentmindedly/absorbedly/in a trance/
Headword 1うっとり
Part-of-speechn,vs,adv
English 1abstractedly
English 2absentmindedly
English 3absorbedly
English 4in a trance
CommentThe gloss here doesn't really seem to capture the 'charmed by/fascinated with/enchanted by' sense which is predominant in the Tanaka examples for this word. The handout I have here defines うっとり as "a drunken-like pleasant feeling caused by seeing or hearing something beautiful", but that's a bit unwieldy. Sanseido has "be fascinated (by/with)", and the ALC site includes a pile of things like "be carried away by/enraptured by/mesmerized by".

"To discard, to get rid of", meaning 「放棄する」, is 「すてる」in 共通語,「ほかる」in Nagoya-ben, and 「ほかす」in Kansai-ben.
