CommentIs ス ever associated with 四 in Japanese? I have no problem with an entry like "ス /(n) one (Chinese)/", balancing the "ワン /(n) one ..." entry, but I'd like evidence that 四 ever gets a ス reading in Japanese.

==

i would guess that it's not, outside of obvious chinese contexts.

perhaps just simple katakana entries for イー, アル, サン スー, etc. with (zh:) tags and x-refs to the kanji would be best?

1個連隊2000人(普通科歩兵)とすると軍集団は数十万人と言う事になります。湾岸戦争時のイラク軍は兵員238万といわれていますから数個軍集団を保持していたことになります。
CommentRe: "is there a reference for "military units"? "
-- "None that I can find."
JUST A COMMENT: Traditionally, "個"(seldom 箇)[read: こ] has been used as a counter for such military units as divisions, regiments, batallions, etc.
yahoon.co.jp hits for "個師団" = 99,700.
My guess is this is to avoid confusion between the naming and counting of the units. E.g. 15師団(=第15師団)、15個師団(15 divisions).

Comment"What do others think?"

One phrase I've often come across is
そう(は)ない
そう(は)いない
meaning 'there aren't many'.

e.g. あんな、カッコいい男そうはいない。

The usage seems to be pretty similar

e.g. あんないい男そうそういないぞ!!

and I think you are probably correct about the derivation (e.g. both come from the adverb 然う.)

That's as maybe but if you look at, say, どのくらい / どの位 there is a significant minority with the kanji (~ 1/7). Considering we're going round with 乃(の) and 為る(する) I don't think we can be too picky about which words should have kanji in the headword.
