Current Entryセレブ /(n) (See セレブリティー) (abbr) celebrity/
Headword 1セレブ
Part-of-speechn
English 1Wealthy socialite
English 2Celebrity
ReferenceFrom http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/祉:

現在、日本ではセレブと略され、金持ち、優雅、高級、などの意味合いで誤用されている。

>From http://gogen-allguide.com/se/celeb.html:

セレブの意味が曖昧なまま広まったため、単にお金持ちになることやブランド品を身につけることも「セレブになる」などと表現されるようになった。

CommentOn Japanese television, "セレブ" seems to be almost exclusively used in the sense of "Wealthy socialite" rather than the original English sense of the word. I have even seen the term used to refer to New York socialites (unfortunately I don't have a reference for that).

Headword 1シリコン

Cross-referenceシリコーン
Referencehttp://www.orient-doll.com/lineup/cg_jl_f/index.html
「ボディーはジュエルライトと異なる特殊シリコン製。バストサイズもさらに上回る94cmに到達。」
CommentPerhaps a bit of confusion by the Japanese on this one. Whereas WWWJDIC has entries both for "silicon" and "silicone" (thus differentiating the two chemical bodies) there are a number of posts on the Internet which indicate a tendency of Japanese to use the Katakana, シリコン both for the naturally-occurring element, Silicon, and for the oxidized form, Silicone. Perhaps the definition for シリコン does not entirely need an additional "English meaning," but given the interchangable use of Katakana for シリコン, a cross-reference may be in order.

So I suppose I only have myself to blame for this gaining
其れ形 (26 yahoo hits) as a headword. In general, though,
I thought there was an unwritten rule that primary entries
get the rarely used kanji but secondary ones don't.
(e.g. 仏蘭西 but フランス語)

Editorial Comment Leaving aside odd-balls like 仏蘭西, I have been pretty free with recording the rarely-used kanji forms of Japanese words like 鳥渡, 迄, etc. In this case 大辞林 leads with 其れなり (22k Googits), so I have added that in front. As ever "uk" rules.
