Headword 1 | 方 |
Reading 1 | かた |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | (1) person |
English 2 | (suf) (2) way of doing |
Comment | It might be worth noting that when 方 is used to mean "person" it is considerably more polite and deferential than the "generic" 人. In sum, then, since we have "sens" markers, do we need "pol" markers -- or do we already have them? |

Editorial Comment | Yes, there is a "pol" tag, which I have added now. Also extended the entry quite a lot. |

Comment | Jim, it certainly seems to be primarily related to the BLEACH manga/anime/game(s).
Although it seems it is also finding some use with some ecchi images it seems. So it might become slang, but at this point it does not have a linguistic domain aside from BLEACH. Interesting to see the Chinese took it over verbatim. :) |

Comment | I came across it in compdic, except the reading in compdic's entry begins muru instead of the correct maru... (the entry in compdic should be corrected at least)
It seems general enough for edict (found for example if you go to a non-existing page on the japanese wikipedia), plus I added the version without 'ki' hiragana as found on wikipedia and revhenkan. |

Comment | I submitted this entry a couple of days ago, but I neglected to leave my name and email. I notice that it says "(NB: User-submitted entry, awaiting verification)". What kind of verification is required? I have attached a Japanese language link (one of the many available from a Google search of the term). Also, being part of the gay scene in Japan, I have had constant exposure to the word over the years I have been here. One other thing - I notice that the word doesn't come up when entered in hiragana. Is the "Reading of the headword in kana" not included in the search? For that reason I have also entered the hiragana as an Alternative headword, as I think it is written both ways.

Editorial Comment |
The "NB: User-submitted ..." goes on automatically util the entry is
rolled into the main database.
For an entry like ノンケ;のんけ, put both kana forms in as the "Headword" - as it says on the side panel: "Use this field if the word is written only in hiragana and/or katakana." I don't understand the "word doesn't come up when entered in hiragana". In WWWJDIC the two kana forms are treated the same - searching for one will find the other. |
