New Entries/Amendments for 2007-12-21

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

CommentIn lieu of 母語話者 【ぼごわしゃ】 (n) native speaker what I have always heard and used, forever and ever, is: 母国語者
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment 母語話者 is in a few references and gets 36,000 page hits in Google. 母国語者 isn't in any refs that I can see and gets 479 page hits. My guess is that it would be understood, but it's not a regular Japanese term.

CommentThis entry had "捩る" for ねじる, when, without the じ,
it is actually もじる. I therefore added the じ.

Editorial Comment Typing it where? 捩る/もじる has been an entry for many years!

A bit hard to tell which hits for 捩る are ねじる and which もじる/よじる. GG5 only has 捩じる for ねじる. I'll merge in よじる, but like GG5 I'll keep 捩る/もじる seperate.
Current Entry捩じる(P);捻じる;拗じる;捩る(io);捻る(io) [ねじる] /(v5r,vt) (1) (uk) to screw/to twist/(2) to distort/(3) to torture/to wrest/(P)/

Part-of-speechv5r,vt
English 1(1) (uk) to screw
English 2to twist
English 3(2) to distort
English 4(3) to torture
English 5to wrest
Commenti don't think that 捩る and 捻る warrant (io), or that possibly the (io) should be the other way around. this is the form the kokugo dictionaries use, as well as the form that my ime suggests

and as paul noted in a submission from last year, web hits favor this as well:
捻じる 719
捩じる 382
拗じる 3
捩る 75,300 注意:Can also be read もじる or よじる
捻る 343,000 注意:Can also be read as ひねる

i think that 捩る (よじる) might also be a potential merge

CommentI'm in two minds as to whether it needs a separate entry but コメント is often used for "reply written to blog entry".

For example I think a sentence like

コメントをありがとう。
would generally be more like
Thanks for commenting (on my blog).
than
Thanks for the comment.
