Part-of-speechn

Comment"quote marks" appears to be less (/6) common and possibly not 'correct' but maybe worth having to pick up more English word searches?

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1absolutism (phil.)
CommentCan't find this (絶対論) anywhere else. Why would 絶対主義 not be "generally" (as a general word) accurate?
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment 絶対論 is in the Kenkyusha 中辞典.
Kenkyusha Readers' highlights the differences:
【政】 絶対主義; 専制政治 (despotism); 【哲】 絶対論; 【神学】 絶対説, 《特に》予定説 (predestination); 絶対性, 確実性.
So 絶対論 is indeed the philosophical variety.

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1Confucianism
CommentDon't think this entry is viable either (also cannot find it anywhere else - not even in Eijiro which has all the weirdo entries - sorry) as 主義 is not needed for 儒教 - simply because the word etymologically means "the teachings of Confucius". KInd of looks like English-Japanese.

Current Entry西洋崇拝主義 [せいようすうはいしゅぎ] /(n) worship or admiration of Western cultures/
Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1worship or admiration of Western cultures
CommentAlthough I really, really like this entry, I can't find it anywhere else, nor can I find any of its components:
西洋崇拝 or 崇拝主義. As Jim well knows, I am quite fond of conjuring up expressions on the spot and as need be, such that I kind of feel this very worthy expression was similarly created. Any documentation on its birth?

Editorial Comment Someone sent it in about 18 mo ago. Seems valid - gets enough hits. The components look quite clear to me. 西洋 and 崇拝 are entries.

Referencekoj, daijr, daijs

daijirin says it also applies to moats & rivers. progressive waei just has it as "enclosure"

Editorial Comment Expanded it a bit as per the Gg5 entry. GG5 has only 廓, which I'll have first.

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1skeptics
English 2sceptics
CommentI have a feeling that 懐疑派 is specific to skeptics in philosophy, such that "a skeptic" as an individual would be 懐疑主義者 or 懐疑論者 (someone with a firmly entrenched belief system of skepticism). A clarification of 懐疑派 would be helpful.
NameDennis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment It is indeed "the skeptics".

CommentA typo here on the rendering. "Objectivity" should be "objective" (an adjectival form) Hey, what can I say. It's my attention to obscure detail that gets me paid the Big Bucks on the Edict project.
