CommentSomeone who frequently fantasizes about various things (tendency towards relationship/sexual matters), usually not actually to the extent of mental illness but may be a little fuzzy around the edges about what's real and what's not. May include lying to others (possibly even to themselves).

I've attached a link I found. I make it 308 'real' Google hits (compared to 1,120,000 for 真剣)

ReferenceSuper Daijirin has an entry in my Wordtank G55.

A Google search yields ~172000 hits.
CommentI am not entirely sure about the translation though. It's my best approximation to what I think is the established term in English. "speed learning" on Google gives ~115000 hits.

As Super Daijirin defines it:

そくしゅう「速習」

スル
語学や技術などを、短期間で修得すること。「―講座」

Given the classifier スル I also added the 'suru verb' part of speech, I hope I picked the right suru verb classifier for it. A search on 速習する on Google yields ~821 hits. Example: http://www.amazon.co.jp/リック英語道場-右脳で速習するTOEICテスト英単語-必修編・スコア600~730レベル-リック西尾/dp/4569616674

Editorial Comment In Koujien too as "技術を短期間で習得すること。". It's a normal "vs"; not an irregular one.

Current Entry反社会的 [はんしゃかいてき] /(adj-na) antisocial/
Headword 1反社会的
Reading 1はんしゃかいてき
Part-of-speechadj-na
English 1antisocial
CommentA "database" access problem: 非社交的 is not listed for "antisocial" under 反社会的 but should be since "antisocial" is correctly given as one of its English renderings: 非社交的 【ひじゃこうてき】 (adj-na) unsociable; antisocial. Gee whiz, guys, I really would, for the sake of my sanity at the very least, like to see some demarcation as to which is predominantly accepted. If both are acceptable, a demarcation to that effect as well. However, etymologically both are different such that I would assume that usage is also different. Paul and I have discussed this in "sidebar" emails and I think we both agree on that point. On the positive side I do notice more directed (see ABC) references in Edicat and for that I am really, truly happy. Our progress is indeed glacial, but it is nevertheless progress.

Editorial Comment Are you suggesting cross-references between 反社会的 and 非社交的? I don't think they are synonyms; in fact I'll remove the "antisocial" from 非社交的, as I think it's really "unsociable".

Current Entry非社交的 [ひじゃこうてき] /(adj-na) unsociable/antisocial/
Headword 1非社交的
Reading 1ひじゃこうてき
Part-of-speechadj-na
English 1unsociable
English 2antisocial
CommentNot being able to let things go and wishing to be more than an whining "objector", I would suggest that we change the rendering of 非社交的 to "unsociable" (fine as it is as primary) and the secondary to be replaced by "asocial" (to describe a person with basically no feeling toward or against other people - can take 'em or leave 'em, so to speak. 反社会的, just as in English, would be stronger, ie "antisocial" - someone not content to just avoid people but also more than willing to do them in.

Editorial Comment "asocial" is not that accepted. I now have it: "unsociable/retiring/solitude-loving".

Headword 1保守党
Reading 1ほしゅとう
Part-of-speechn
English 1Conservative Party
English 2the Right
English 3Tories
CommentI would really like to see a clarification of this expression (in parentheses) which is apparently more specific to GB. Is the 保守党 throughout the Commonwealth - Australia, NZ, Canada, what other countries. As you know in the US we have the Democrats, Republicans and Independents with no specific party called the Conservatives.

Editorial Comment I've cut it back to just "Conservative Party (UK, Canada, Japan)". It seems to be used whenever there is a party of that name, e.g., http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AB%E3%83%8A%E3%83%80%E4%BF%9D%E5%AE%88%E5%85%9A

English 4eclecticism
CommentI'm all for an exhaustive grammatical representation of each base entry. In this case 折衷的 for "eclectic" is a must have. Also, but not in this case, other endings such as 性, 化, 非, 反. In short if a Japanese word has conjugations in English I explore the possibility of their being the same conjugation in Japanese. Edict, like Yahoo and Google are pretty hit and miss here, the only one being the most thorough (though the renderings are often hugely weird) is Eijiro (http://eow.alc.co.jp/). Sorry to say this but I often use Eijiro just to see the range of possible endings and then make judgments as to their acceptability based on experience - a pretty thorough dictionary, though I would never recommend it for the Newbie.

Editorial Comment Affixation is so common and productive in Japanese that I question the need to add all the 的/性/化/非/反/etc. forms unless the meaning is not clear from the construction. OTOH, if someone puts them in as new entries, backed by corpus counts verifying their frequency-of-use, I wouldn't block them.
