Headword 2
Reading 1あたま
Reading 2かしら
Reading 3かぶり
Reading 4
Reading 5こうべ
Part-of-speechn
English 1(1) (こうべ is used for hanging one's head, かぶり for shaking the head) head
English 2(2) (あたま,かしら only) hair (on one's head)
English 3(3) (あたま,かしら only) top
English 4(4) (あたま only) mind/brain/intellect
English 5(5) (かしら only) top structural component of a kanji
Commentwould like to recommend some kind of merge, or at least a correction to this entry.

the current situation is:

頭(P); 首 【あたま(頭)(P); かしら(頭)(P); かぶり(頭); ず(頭); こうべ】 (n) (1) (こうべ is used for hanging one's head, かぶり for shaking the head) head; (2) brains; intelligence; (P)

頭 【つむり】 (n) (1) (uk) (obsc) head; face; (2) fringe; front hair

the first entry is not accurate, because only あたま can be "mind".

suggest something like (adding other readings & senses from koj & daij):
頭,首 [あたま(頭),かしら(頭),かぶり(頭),こうべ(頭,首),ず(頭),つむり(頭),つぶり(頭),つむ(頭),かぶ(頭)(ok)]
(1) head
(2) (あたま only) mind
brain
intellect
(3) (あたま,かしら only) top
(4) (あたま,かしら only) hair (on one's head)
(5) (つむり only) bangs
fringe
(6) (かしら only) top structural component of a kanji

i'm not sure the little explanatory note is necessary. 頭(かぶり)を振る already has an entry. 頭(こうべ)を垂れる could be given one

Commenti don't think the "negative nuance" is necessary, or should at the very least be hedged with "often".

Commenti don't read manga, so i have no idea about this stuff, but are we sure this is correct?

in any case, this might be handled simply by adding 漢 as (iK) to the おとこ entry, or adding "sometimes written as 漢 in manga" in an explanatory note
NameRene Malenfant
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I'm not very confident about it, and can't verify it I think it's probably better on its own rather than cluttering the 男 entry.

Comment> i don't read manga, so i have no idea about this stuff,
> but are we sure this is correct?

The reading most certainly is. Whether the gloss is the best is a slightly different matter, but the nuance/meaning _is_ different to the standard 男. It's rather like Man, as in the Rudyard Kipling poem.

> in any case, this might be handled simply by adding 漢 as
> (iK) to the おとこ entry, or adding "sometimes written as
> 漢 in manga" in an explanatory note

There's a (m-sl) tag, that this should have - and 男(おとこ) shouldn't. Personally I think it's best kept separate to avoid confusion.

CommentI am quite sure that "shortsightedness" will be misunderstood by many people, especially Americans for whom it means "lacking foresight" (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/shortsighted). Please add "myopia" as well as "nearsightedness" both of which are more clearly understood by a wider range of people.

Headword 1遠眼
Reading 1えんがん
Part-of-speechn
English 1far-sightedness
CommentNot saying that it is not used because it is, like 近眼, pretty easy to understand. Just saying that I can't find it elsewhere. Also, unlike 近眼 which transitions into 近眼鏡, 遠眼 seems to have no real utility since it does not transition nicely into 遠眼鏡, which I can only find in ALC (望遠眼鏡 telescopic(al) spectacles). With all due respects, I don't trust Eijiro for accuracy. In sum, if it were I, I would delete it as an entry.

Editorial Comment 遠眼 is in 広辞宛, 大辞林 and GG5, which all say it's a synonym for 遠視. GG5 and 大辞林 mention 遠眼鏡 too, while 広辞宛 has two entries for it.
