Comment | this is another one of these entries like べん【弁・辨】, べん【弁・瓣】, べん【弁・辯】 where a single kanji has taken on an additional meaning due to kanji reforms.
the senses are: 余,予 [よ] (arch) I (formal or oratory first-person pronoun) me 余,餘(oK) [よ] (n,n-suf) (1) over more than (n) (2) remainder in-context hits for 餘 number in the hundreds/thousands range, so it's probably worth keeping in here somewhere, if not by splitting the senses, then with a note |

Comment | more iffy territory.
存知 is ateji for 存じ, but it's also a word in its own right (currently entered as 存知[ぞんじ,ぞんち], but the reading for that word is usually ぞんち, and it seems archaic. no dictionary combines the entry for 存じ and the entry for 存知[ぞんじ], even though the meanings are pretty much the same. probably because of their different origins there's also the problem that 存知 is marked as (vs), which it is, whereas 存じ is not a (vs). also 存知 does not appear to be humble, whereas 存じ is. suggest two entries, with 存知 marked as ateji in this one, then flipping the readings for the other entry so that ぞんち is first, and marking it as archaic. the difference in (hum), (arch), (ateji) and (vs) tags should be enough to keep them apart otherwise you could just merge them with appropriate restrictions and a nice note |

i don't think there's anything particularly wrong with 有難う. my ime has it, as do daijirin and daijisen, and it gets 2.3 million hits. no more incorrect than many other unorthodox okurigana entries who get a pass whatever's done to おはよう should be matched here. (i.e., the same note about it coming from 有り難く and a link to 有り難い; if one is classified as an abbr, the other should be too, etc.) |

Current Entry | あら /(int) (1) oh/ah/(2) (kanji is U29E8A) saw-edged perch (Niphon spinosus)/(P)/ (1000520) |
Headword 1 | あら |
Part-of-speech | int |
English 1 | (1) oh |
English 2 | ah |
English 3 | (2) (kanji is U29E8A) saw-edged perch (Niphon spinosus) |
Comment | If these are split I suggest making the fish katakana only. Otherwise the [EX] link from the 'fish' entry will be going to sentences from the 'oh, ah' entry.
There are currently about 60 pairs of Edict entries with identical もら, most of which are distinguishable by katakana vs hiragana. The exceptions being − ちゃう ちゃう (exp) (1) (poss. from ちがう) (osb:) No!; (2) isn't it?; wasn't it? ちゃう; じゃう (v5u) (contraction of ..て or で plus しまう) to do something completely − チン チン (n) chin; (P) チーン; チン (n,vs) (1) ding (sound of a bell); bing; (vs) (2) to cook (or heat) in a microwave oven (from the 'ching' timer bell); (vs) (3) sneeze (into a tissue, used with children) − ピーカン ピーカン; ぴいかん (n) state of fine weather where one is subject to direct sunlight ピーカン; ペカン (n) pecan (type of nut) |

I'm a bit short on time now so maybe Hendrik would like the honours ;-) |

Headword 2 | 存知 |
Reading 1 | ぞんじ |
Part-of-speech | n |
Comment | > suggest two entries, with 存知 marked as ateji in this one,
> then flipping the readings for the other entry so that > ぞんち is first, and marking it as archaic. the difference > in (hum), (arch), (ateji) and (vs) tags should be enough > to keep them apart At present there are no examples for 存知 or 存じ. If there were your suggestion would leave [EX] links pointing to the wrong sentences. |
