The big distinction appear to be between (n) and (adv) in the 大辞林 entry, although it would be difficult to reflect that in the glosses.

Headword 2

Commentwell, to be fair, the thesaurus i believe you're quoting from is also the one that incorrectly lists 侘び as 佗び.

and i don't think you can really compare hits for these anyway. うがい is a surpassingly more common word and is normally written in hiragana. がんそう is basically always kanji. that alone will bias the hits signigicantly

i always lean toward "that's not the reading, that's the explanation" if it can't be substantiated in a dictionary

Headword 1まんじり

English 1(1) nap, short sleep
English 2(2) staringly
Reference大辞林, 広辞苑, gg5 etc.

>From the book モモ,
「おかげで一晩中、みんなまんじりともできませんでした。」
Comment大辞林 says 「(多く「と」を伴って)」, would that qualify as adv-to, or does it always have to be followed by と to be an adv-to?

Also, my gloss suggestion for sense (1) is not an adverb. The closest I could get was nappingly, but Google apparently doesn't agree with me.
NameDavid Ranvig
Submission Typenew
Editorial Comment Of course this is nearly always まんじりともしない, まんじりともせずに, etc. etc. I have added them as another entry and xreffed this to it. I think the first sense is just a noun, but rarely used as such.
