自動車レースをモチーフにした少年少女向けテレビアニメである。1967年に竜の子プロダクションが制作し、フジテレビ系で放送された。 原作の吉田竜夫や総監督の笹川ひろしといった主要スタッフは運転免許を所持しておらず、自動車やレースについて深い知識があったわけではないらしい。それが逆に良い意味で荒唐無稽な設定を生み出すことになり、子供から大人まで理屈抜きに楽しめる作品になった決め手かも知れない。 アメリカでは「Speed Racer」のタイトルで放送され、人気を博した。主題歌のメロディーは日本と同じで、英語の歌詞をのせている。 1997年にリメイク版が制作され、テレビ東京系で放送された。 2006年、アメリカで『スピード・レーサー』として実写映画化されることが決定した。監督はマトリックス三部作を手がけたウォシャウスキー兄弟。キャストは主人公にエミール・ハーシュ（Emile Hirsch)、父親役にジョン・グッドマン、母親役に、スーザン・サランドン、恋人のトリクシィ役にはクリスティーナ・リッチーが、覆面レーサーX役にはマシュー・フォックスが決定している。2008年夏公開予定、なお海外ではWiiとDSでビデオゲームも発売予定。 また、2008年にライオンズゲート社の制作によるアニメ新シリーズが、アメリカのアニメ専門チャンネルにて26話放送予定。 |
