Current Entry下半期 [しもはんき(P);かはんき] /(n) the last half-year/(P)/ (1576980)
Headword 1下半期
Reading 1しもはんき
Reading 2かはんき
Part-of-speechn
English 1the last half-year
CommentSince I believe the meanings are synonymous, we should bring the English renderings into line accordingly, i.e. by the same. How about: "the last half-year; the second half of the year" for each?

So sorry to annoy everyone but, with all the right intentions - and with too little sleep, I have totally ballsed-up my preceding two amendment-suggestions regarding the following 4 - which I believe require some attention:

半期 【はんき】 (n-adv,n-t) half-term; half-time; half period
----------------------
1) 前半期 【ぜんぱんき】 (n) first half period
2) 後半期 【こうはんき】 (n) second half (e.g. of a year)
3) 上半期 【かみはんき】 (n) first half of a year
4) 下半期 【しもはんき(P); かはんき】 (n) the last half-year

#1 and #2 are obvious antonyms, such that the renderings should reflect that fact verbatim and, as has been the "new procedure", pointer references attached accordingly to reflect their relationship. And the same for #3 and #4. In "on-the-run" usage I would probably go with #1 and #2, because they are, in my experience, the more common (over 3 and 4). With that said, #3 and #4 may have more of a tie to "fiscal or account-reporting periods". I'll let you people be the judge. Sorry for all the confusion.

Headword 2長目
Reading 1ながめ

English 1(1) longish
English 2moderately long
English 3(2) (at the) long end
Comment> Kenkyusha 新和英中辞典: バットを長めに持つ hold the [one's] bat at the knob.

Is that given as a separate sense in that dictionary? I'm not sure I would describe that as "(at the) long end". It looks like adverbial use of (1) to me.

長めに切る cut it on the long side (if English did that then "cut it longish-ly")
長めに持つ lit: hold it on the long side (e.g. hold it so that it is (effectively) long)

Would those both be (2) under your understanding, or not?

Editorial Comment The 中辞典 didn't have them as senses. Yes, I'd see both of those as (2). I don't think the "at the long end.." can easily be associated with the adjectival sense.
