New Entries/Amendments for 2008-06-03

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 3 June.

Current Entry強気市場 [ごうぎいちば] /(n) bull market/ (1990610)
Headword 1強気市場
Reading 1ごうぎいちば
Part-of-speechn
English 1bull market
Commentごうぎいちば ??? Where in the unknown word did that reading come from!! Should be as one would expect:
つよき in balance with 弱気 (よわき) which is correct --and-- This should be changed as well: 豪儀; 豪気; 強気 【ごうぎ】 (adj-na) (1) great; grand; (2) obstinate; stubborn

Editorial Comment Addressing the 2nd point first, 豪儀; 豪気; 強気 【ごうぎ】 is alive and well. GG5: ごうぎ2【豪儀 強気】 .... -> 豪勢/ごうせい 〜な great; grand; magnificent; luxurious; sumptuous
Daijirin: ごう-ぎ 【強気・豪気・豪儀】 ....
No changing there. The issue then is whether 強気市場 is read ごうぎ or つよき. The WWW is little help here. I think you are correct in that it's the "strong" 強気 rather than the grand one. Moreover, I think it's actually つよきしじょう.

English 1(See ペンギン) (obsc) penguin
ReferenceMany Japanese sites where this rare word appears give the reading as "pengin", rather than "kiga". Strange...
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment Are they showing the *reading* as ペンギン, or are they glossing it as ペンギン?

CommentI don't know if this should technically be a noun or a verb with a る ending, but
I always hear it used as an informal noun.

Editorial Comment On WWW hits the verb (並び変える) is more common, so I'll put that instead.

CommentI'm not sure what makes (1) a (pref) while (2) is in as (adj-f). Also (3)'s (adj-i) has to be wrong, doesn't it?

Editorial Comment They should be all either pref or adj-f.
