Comment | This word is extremely common in hiking and mountain literature and vocabulary. I was surprised by its absence, but wanted to include a reference to a verifiable source before submitting.
n.b. "mountaineering" may be tempting to add as meaning, but I think that 山行 is a bit less extreme, including normal (non-climbing) hiking/backpacking and even just walking leisurely in the mountains. |

Headword 1 | 第一幕目 |
Reading 1 | だいいちまくめ |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | the first one act play |
Reference | Google translator |
Comment | The context of the text which I was reading did not help with my understanding of the meaning and your site said make a submission. Then I checked with Google translator and I got the meaning as stated above. I am not too certain of the correct kana, but I have opted for the above because of the Google translation. However, if the reading were だいいちばくめ, maybe it would have a meaning like 'the first feudal government' although the context would seem to exclude that meaning; unless I have gone completely astray on reading the rest of the text. |

Editorial Comment | I have a bit of a problem here. 第一X目 will mean the 1st of almost any possible member of class X, where X is something than can occur in a sequence. It will be impossible to have all possible 第nX目 possibilities included. If I saw 第一幕目, I'd treat it as 幕 with a 第一 .. 目 wrapper, which is what it is. I'll leave it in as "first act (play, ballet, opera, etc.)", but I'm not sure it should be in. |
