Current Entry | 持ち逃げ [もちにげ] /(vs) (1) to make off with (something)/to abscond/(adj-f) (2) stolen/absconded (with)/ (1770000) |
Headword 1 | 持ち逃げ |
Reading 1 | もちにげ |
Part-of-speech | vs |
English 1 | (1) to make off with (something) |
English 2 | to abscond |
English 3 | (adj-f) (2) stolen |
English 4 | absconded (with) |
Comment | I think that it should be made more obvious that this entry REQUIRES the use of "suru" to be used at all. As 持ち逃げ is rendered, it "seems to be" a verb in and by itself. For some odd reason there is no other verb form, not even the obvious 持ち逃げる. But, knowing me as I do, I might be inclined to "test the waters" in conversation by using it and watching facial reactions. |

Editorial Comment | Since it is marked with only "vs" as the POS, sense 1 can only be a する verb. It can't be made more obvious than this. There are 138 entries with at least one sense with "vs" alone as the POS. |
Current Entry | 国税 [こくぜい] /(n) national tax/(P)/ (1286750) |
Headword 1 | 国税 |
Reading 1 | こくぜい |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | national tax |
Comment | Although this is a perfect "choku-yaku", like most "choku-yaku" it says nothing. I believe that the addition of "Federal Income Tax" might be helpful. |
Name | Dennis |
Submission Type | amend |
Editorial Comment | For me "national tax" works well. If I were to add anything else, it would have to be "as opposed to a state, regional, municipal, etc. tax". And that's getting messy. "Federal Income Tax" is 米語 to me. I live in a federation and we say "federal this" and "federal that", but not "Federal Income Tax" because our states can't levy income tax. Comments from others? |
Current Entry | レトルト /(n) (1) {food} retort (dut:)/sealed plastic pouch typically containing ready-made sauce or stew/boil-in-the-bag/(2) {chem} retort/glass vessel used for distillation (now largely obs.)/(P)/ (1145650) |
Headword 1 | レトルト |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | (1) {food} retort (dut:) |
English 2 | sealed plastic pouch typically containing ready-made sauce or stew |
English 3 | boil-in-the-bag |
English 4 | (2) {chem} retort (dut:) |
English 5 | glass vessel used for distillation (now largely obs.) |
Comment | Sorry if it wasn't clear from the previous amendment, the {chem} retort is most definitely a word of Dutch origin.
The food one is most likely derived from that, as distillation is probably a part of what was traditionally called retort food. I can't confirm this myself. |

Comment | Should this really be a seperate entry from 迷惑? The contents are exactly the same but for the adj-n tag. I think the example sentences already adequately illustrate the usage of the honorific prefix.
If they should remain seperated, should example sentences using ご迷惑 be linked from 迷惑 (current situation) or ご迷惑 ? |
Name | Jeroen Hoek |

Editorial Comment | The current practice is to have separate entries for the 御/ご/お versions and to cross-reference them. In this case the POSs differ, as 迷惑な is the most common usage of 迷惑, whereas ご迷惑な is less common than just ご迷惑. |
