Comment | Not being one who likes disjunction, I am torn between which of the two readings should take precedence:
1) めんじる 2) めんずる For what it's worth, めんずる gets no hits on Yahoo or Google and a different rendering on ALC/Eijiro from めんじる. Since both are evolutionary forms of suru, I would hope that one would be more acceptable over the other. However, as a wise man once told me, "when you come to a fork in the road, take it". Comment | i basically just copied the senses from kojien, so if clarification is needed for indexing example sentences, look there
one example (from meikyo) that doesn't fit well into this new set is: 「間をとって京都で会おう」 "Let's compromise and meet in Kyoto."/"I'll meet you halfway and hook up with you in Kyoto." a figurative example of sense 1, so it could be added there, or given its own sense if it really matters also, 「体温は三五から三六度の間で一定している」is pretty iffy on this classification scheme. probably closest to senses 3 or 5 |

Comment | Despite all rumours to the contrary, the Japanese people continue to write animal and plant names (like ヒト) in katakana. I guess it would be more convenient for certain newsgroup posters if the Japanese would only change their ways to prevent the newsgroupers from looking silly, but as it stands katakana for animal and plant names is common, and in many cases the kanji version is the exception.
Google searches would easily confirm this! I strongly recommend that you switch over to presenting animal and plant names in katakana. |
Submission Type | amend |
Editorial Comment |
The inclusion of the katakana versions of plant & animal names goes on
steadily, and in almost all cases get tagged as "uk" which indicates
the katakana version is more common. See the recent new entries for
ゲンノショウコ and モクゲンジ as examples of this.
"Presenting animal and plant names in katakana" is possible, but only if the katakana gets entered as an additional reading. I have moved タコ足配線 in front of 蛸足配線, as it is clearly more common. |
