Comment | > Should we?
Well use of all the "older(=respected) relative" forms of address in Japanese involve a whole heap of cultural/linguistic stuff that we can't really cover in Edict. It is, however, at least worth pointing out that when someone addresses someone else as ¤Ë¤¤¤µ¤ó there is not necessarily that blood relationship between them. Also, like many other similar entries, ¤Ë¤¤¤µ¤ó can be used after a name or nickname in which case either a) it's an indication that it isn't that literal blood relationship. or b) there are two or more older brothers and the name is needed to distinguish between them. |

Comment | I presume the (col) was meant for (2). I'm also a little dubious about (2). I daresay that just about anything that's white and liquid has been used at some point with that meaning, but that doesn't mean it means that.
If you take the risk of doing a search on ¥«¥ë¥Ô¥¹ alongside a suitably suggestive word (ËÖµ¯) there seem to be few, if any, where it's actually used as (2) would suggest. |
