Comment | 大辞泉 has ものつくり and 物作り only (sense (2) and (3) above).
SpaceALC and the example sentence we have give "manufacturing". Is there a good source for "making things using skilled hands-on human labor (labour)" ? |

Comment | This may be outside the scope of your rules, however, thinking that I was looking for the name of a person, I searched all over, including your site, and found nothing, then, taking kanji by kanji from back to front, I realized that it was simply an ex-master brewer. Simple when one knows! Nevertheless, it would have been good to enter the 3 kanji into your search and see 'ex-master brewer' |

Headword 1 | 継ぎ杜氏 |
Reading 1 | つぎとうじ |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | take over [inherit the place of] the master brewer |
Reference | See below |
Comment | See my note under my immediately previous submission for 前杜氏 for my comment about being outside your rules. In context, in the end I realized that the text which I was reading referred to the old master brewer retiring and the new master brewer taking over. Again, I was looking for a name, but then discovered that the 3 kanji were a description. To have entered the 3 kanji on your search and found 'inheriting the place of the master brewer' would have been good. I do understand that there must be a limit to simple descriptions, however, sometimes the clues for a beginner point in the wrong direction and your site would provide that invaluable pointer. |

Editorial Comment | I'm adding "(adj-f) successor" as a second sense for 継ぎ. I suspect it's pretty obscure terminology. It's a good idea to check how common a word phrase is - Google shows up one hit for 継ぎ杜氏. |
