Current Entryつけ始める [つけはじめる] /(v1) to begin to light (a cigarette)/ (1980890)
Headword 1つけ始める
Reading 1つけはじめる
Part-of-speechv1
English 1to begin to light (a cigarette)
CommentGiven the lack of kanji for つけ in the headword hits for this word could be from any of the つける verbs. Including the notorious 付ける entry.

If, for example, 付け始める was added as a headword there should presumably be the same 12 senses as for 付ける (only with "to start to ..." added to each). I don't really want to face that, so I would suggest removing this entry (it's covered by 付ける + 始める(sense 3))

CommentPaul: it's great that edict might reach the same number of entries as the だいじりん in four years. It's not that long for a dictionary. Edict has 120 000 entries and the だいじりん has 238 000 according to wikipedia. That means that edict would need to double in size in 4 years!

Editorial Comment EDICT now has 133,000. 大辞林 has a lot of names which are in ENAMDICT, so we need to compare like with like.

Headword 1平均化
Reading 1へいきんか
Part-of-speechn,vs
English 1averaging

CommentI'm not familiar with a comp. term "balance," the current primary (and only) definition of the word. In any case, the usual and basic meaning seems to be (the process of) averaging. "Balance" would appear to be a specialized (secondary) application of the general concept of averaging.
