Any noun which expresses a quality which you care to mention will have thousands of Google hits for a form with "no aru". E.g. 甘さのある, 強さのある. There's no point putting all of these forms into a dictionary. Better to beef up the "no aru" entry. |

Editorial Comment | I think it's OK to have the very common ....のある included. Beginners will look them up, and also they can be useful when going E->J. Yes, we could no with a "のある" entry. |

Headword 1 | 食べ始める |
Reading 1 | たべはじめる |
Part-of-speech | v1 |
English 1 | (See 食べる,始める) to start eating |
Comment | Suggest deleting this entry and any others like it. はじめる is a productive suffix in Japanese which can be attached to any verb.
If it's felt necessary to have such entries, they could be created by software - verb stem + はじめる = to start doing. |
Submission Type | amend |
Editorial Comment |
How many compound verbs to include is a bit of a vexed issue. There are many that should be included, and others, such as 食べ始める, which can usually
always be correctly inferred. In an ideal system we could handle this at a code
level, so that someone looking up 食べ始める would be taken to 食べる and some
comment about which auxiliary verbs it can be associated with. I see that if you put 食べ始める into the online Kenkyusha site you get taken to the GG5
食べる entry and shown the example "では食べ始めるとするか".
I guess as a policy matter, I have taken the view that if someone wants to add a compound verb, and it's a valid one that is common enough to be encountered, well let it stay. In this sense I'm more liberal than for, say, for some of the phrases we've removed such as 威かして金を取る and 藍色掛かった生地. |

I think there is confusion between two かみばさみs. 広辞宛 and 大辞林 have
almost identical entries:

Comment | Suggest deleting this; it's two words together which don't mean anything at all except what the two words mean separately.
Or you'd have to add 火山講演会 and 農業講演会 etc. etc. |

Editorial Comment | I wondered about these when Hendrik suggested them a week or two back. They were the topic of a thread on the Honyaku list. I'll certainly keep the ユビキタス社会 entry, as it gets significant erroneous back-translation. I'm inclined to drop ユビキタス環境 and ユビキタス講演会 as the current ユビキタス entry should make it clear. Comment | いじはる might well be acceptable for your dictionary, but the above links from "Paul" don't provide evidence, since one is about 昔の茨城弁 and the other is about kotowaza, which don't contain regular forms, generally.
