Commentas regards the question of etymology:

daijirin:
んとする
〔補説〕 「むとす」の口語形
[1] まさに、そうなろうとしている。
・ まさに天を衝か―する意気込み
[2] そうするつもりだ。そうしようとする。
・ 国政を改革せ―する決意

meikyo:

daijisen:

2 (「んとする」の形で)意志・推量の意を表す。「言わんとすることはわかった」

BTW, the current english glosses are all incorrectly entered as nouns, which would correspond with "言わんとする***こと***", etc.

i'll add entries for んとする and むとす

Headword 1身分制
Reading 1みぶんせい
Part-of-speechn
English 1class system

ReferenceI saw this on wikipedia as an abbreviation of 身分制度. Some google hits also use it to refer to a class system. http://www.museum.tokushima-ec.ed.jp/hasegawa/manyu/mibun.htm

I've got the feeling that status system is just a bad translation.
Namescott
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I've noted that it's an abbreviation of 身分制度. Class system is fine, but I think it doesn't really mean "caste". No EJ glosses caste as 身分制.

Headword 1と言ってしまえばそれまで
Reading 1といってしまえばそれまで
Part-of-speechexp
English 1it is certain true that ... (but)
English 2you can't argue that it's not ... (but)
Reference「騙された」と言ってしまえばそれまでですが、「うまい話」に乗った当人であることは間違いありません。
If you say "I was tricked," well that's certainly so but there's no mistaking that you were the one who signed up on a "sweet deal".
Comment168,000 Google hits, 60,700 for kana version.

Basically this is used to admit that something (a view point, a summation) is unarguable before going on to ask, explain or argue a more subtle point.

You could lose the initial と to slightly improve searchability.

/そこまで/ is another variation but much less used.

Headword 1ヤハウェ
Headword 2ヤーウェ
Headword 3ヤーヴェ
Part-of-speechn
English 1Yahweh
English 2Yahveh
English 3[Jehova (usual misspelling in English)]
ReferenceSee below.
CommentInteresting. However, as the misspelling 'Jehova' is often made, would it not help to include it as [Jehova (a usual misspelling in English)] or, perhaps, include a cross link to Jehova elsewhere.
NameFrancis
Submission Typeamend
Editorial Comment I added the Jehova, and a link to エホバ. I was just comment that "Jehova" wasn't strictly a reading. Jehova isn't regarded as a mispelling - its derivation is a mis-transliteration from Hebrew, because the translator thought the "adonai" written with it was a set of vowel marks.
