These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

CommentEspecially given the multiple kanji for うまい that are acceptable and to bring it into parallel line with まずい,
うまい might also be a candidate for (uk).

Editorial Comment I wonder. 甘い gets more WWW hits than うまい.

CommentAny interest in linking to 当てはまる(P); 当て嵌まる 【あてはまる】 (v5r) to apply (a rule); to be applicable; to come under (a category); to fulfill My feelings will not be seriously damaged if the venn diagrams of meaning do not overlap enough. I would probably use them as synonymous with the addition of context qualifiers.

Editorial Comment I suspect they are not quite close enough at present. If we were to go into heavy annotation of synonyms, that might be a time to add it.

Current Entryへぼ /(adj-na,n) bungler/greenhorn/clumsy/poor hand/ (1011380)
Headword 1へぼ
Part-of-speechadj-na,n
English 1bungler
English 2greenhorn
English 3clumsy
English 4poor hand
CommentToo obvious for words. Should be a link to:
下手 【へた】 (adj-na,n) (1) unskillful; poor; awkward; (2) imprudent; untactful; (P) [Ex]
-and-
下手くそ(P); 下手糞 【へたくそ(P); ヘタクソ】 (adj-na,n) (1) extreme clumsiness; severe lack of skill at a task; (int) (2) You're hopeless!; Give it up
Note: Any addition of くそ is a strong pejorative and means "shit" as in 下手くそ (shitty awful)

Editorial Comment Koujien says: "平凡の略か", which may be the etymology. I'll xref to 平凡 and 下手.

CommentI came upon this organization in a manga I am deciphering: 都立水商!, Vol. 4, p.62, ISBN4-09-153104-0. I thought it might be fictional, but a Google search found many examples of this exact kanji sequence, including the official website. I'm very surprised that MEXT was not already in the corpus of my most trusted Japanese language resource, so I'm taking time to add it.

Editorial Comment 文都科学省 is, of course, a typo for 文部科学省. The former gets 17 WWW hits and the latter gets 3 million.
