Part-of-speechn
English 1common sense
English 1common knowledge
English 2general knowledge
Referencehttp://gakuen.gifu-net.ed.jp/~cont1/kou_kokugo/quiz/kokugo03.html
CommentThe amendment suggested removing "common sense". However, this meaning is possible for 常識, even though joushiki has a narrower meaning than "common sense". Unfortunately many untalented English - Japanese translators tend to miss the difference in meanings and use "common sense" as a direct equivalent both ways, but I'm not sure how to resolve this problem in a short dictionary entry. The problem is really how to translate "common sense" into Japanese, rather than how to translate 常識 into English, so perhaps this is a problem for an English to Japanese dictionary, rather than a Japanese to English one.

Joushiki is also used to mean "general knowledge" in the sense of a "general knowledge quiz" - "joushiku kuizu", as in the reference above, and many more easily available via Google searches.

〔専門〕 哲物の在り方が直接的で自足しており、無自覚で他者や否定の契機をもたないこと。へーゲル弁証法では、未だ対立の意識をもたない直接無媒介の状態とされ、この直接態が矛盾を生じ自と他の対立から反省を経て対自となり、さらに自他を止揚した即自かつ対自に至るとされる。これらは弁証法の正・反・合に対応している。アン-ジッヒ。

Part-of-speech?

Google images throws up a lot of pictures of girls in yellow dresses, but eliminating the Chinese entries, by adding a "の" to the search, eliminates all the girls, but leaves a few shots of the Dalai Lama. In the case I'm dealing with, this means a yellow safety suit of some kind, but I can't find evidence except the document I have.
